What You Need To Know About Sun Protection Cream

Whenever you are out in the sun, it is a must for you to keep an eye on your skin health. Those who have fair skin must be more cautious for they are the ones who are more prone of being affected by the harmful rays of the sun.

The first thing you have to know is the reason why the skin gets tanned when one stays under the heat of the sun. It is because of the melanin that the skin becomes tanned. There is a distinct formation of melanin for every person. This is the reason why some people have their skins darkened faster than other people. Your location as well as the type of your skin are factors that affect the level of skin darkening. The closer you are to the equator,  the hotter your place is.

Sun protection creams work in various ways for the protection of our skin against the harmful rays of the sun. Physical and chemical sun filters go in mixtures on most of the sun protection creams that are out in the market while there are those with just either of the two.

Sun filters function in penetrating the skin and absorbing the rays of the sun. The damage is avoided because the harmful rays of the sun do not go through the lower layers of the skin. Chemical filters function in protecting the skin from damage. Also, physical sun filters function as reflector on top of the skin evident in the thin membranes.

Sun protection creams are helpful in protecting the skin against ultraviolet type A rays or UVA rays and ultraviolet type B rays or UVB rays. These sun protection creams can also be called broad spectrum sunscreens. The damage done by ultraviolet type B rays involves the burning of the topmost layer of the skin that may lead to skin cancer. Ultraviolet type A rays, on the other hand, do not burn but they go through into the skin which affect aging.

The strength of the sun protection cream is measured by the acronym SPF meaning sun protection factor. But then again, it does not mean that you can go out in the sun for longer with higher SPF because it can lead to the invasion of UVA rays. When buying a sun protection cream, you must rely on your skin type. The most recommended level of SPF is 15 for many individuals.

Sun damage leads to a multitude of ageing signs such as age spots, liver spots, wrinkles, pigmentation, and not to mention life threatening conditions – skin cancer. Be sure to always adequately protect your skin when out in the sun using SPF and also by taking shade under an umbrella or by wearing a hat and lightweight clothing.
